"I remember kisses"

I remember kisses like cool days in summer,
like warm November rain.
Can we slip into this dreamland again, love?
Yes. Blow out the candle-
I can still see your hands.
I will wait for your lips - here.

When I make our pallet of white clover and creeping jenny
my heart is vaulted with timbers of night sky.
If you do not come, the timbers will splinter showers of silver stars,
and my body be sucked to the loam.
I can not rise.
My unblinking eyes must forever witness the empty dark.

Take possession of my body that death may not.
Hold me so tightly, no whisper of eternity may seep
through crack or crevice between us.
I am afraid.
I seek oblivion in your eyes.
